Please keep in mind, when looking for any type of partner or resource, diversity, equity, and inclusion conversations should be paramount. When thinking about vendors, ask if they have a diverse staff. Especially, if you are working with a diverse group (as an organization, your audience) with different lived experience from your staff, how are you bridging that gap with people who have actual lived experiences with your audience? If not with staff, how with vendors and partners? And if not with vendors/partners, how with asking the community to be involved?
Many of the wise blogs below will note, “never do for us without us.” Check in on yourself and see if you staff mirrors the people you serve.
If not, go out of your way to find great partners that can help bring the lived experience you lack. Without lived experience and/or a group of people serving who mirror the group of people being served, it is unlikely (history and statistics say) that you can do as much as you would like to do.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion are hugely important.
